UGC chairman Prof SMA Faiz resigns

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Dr. S M A Faiz has resigned from his post.

He submitted his resignation letter to the Ministry of Education on Monday (March 16), sources at the ministry and the UGC confirmed.

Speculation about Faiz’s possible removal had been circulating in recent days. Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan has also indicated that changes may take place in the leadership of several major public universities in the country.

Prof Faiz is a retired professor of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka. He previously served as the 26th vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, initially appointed on September 23, 2002, and held the position for six years.

Before that, he served as the sixth chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission from March 7, 1993, to March 5, 1998.
