The United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory for Bangladesh, warning its citizens of potential risks ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and ongoing unrest in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.

According to the latest guidance from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), travelers are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to remote districts such as Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban.

The advisory notes that political campaigns began last Thursday, with nationwide rallies and gatherings expected to increase ahead of the February 12 polls. Large crowds, heavy security presence, and disruptions to transport are likely, and British citizens are urged to plan travel carefully and remain vigilant.

FCDO also highlighted risks of terrorist attacks and violence, particularly in crowded areas, public transport, restaurants, religious sites, and political events. Extremist groups are reportedly active in Bangladesh and may target religious minorities or those perceived as anti-Islamic.

Travelers ignoring official guidance may face difficulties obtaining assistance and could invalidate travel insurance. Special safety instructions have been issued for women, people with disabilities, and solo travelers.

British citizens in Bangladesh are advised to monitor regular email alerts and contact the UK High Commission in Dhaka in emergencies.

The advisory further notes that political instability remains a concern following the July–August 2024 unrest, and caution is advised at all times.
