UK pledges to strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh’s new government
The United Kingdom has pledged to work closely with Bangladesh’s newly formed government following the 13th parliamentary elections, expressing interest in strengthening cooperation in economic growth, migration, climate change, and security.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said, “We hope the new government will advance democratic, economic, and social reforms.”
The spokesperson welcomed Bangladesh’s February 12 parliamentary elections and described the peaceful process and clear results as a positive development. “This marks an important step toward fulfilling the aspirations of Bangladesh and the expectations of its people,” the official added.
Earlier, the UK congratulated BNP chairman Tarique Rahman and his party on their electoral victory, while also extending best wishes to the people of Bangladesh as the country enters a new political chapter.
In a statement on Friday (February 13), the British High Commission in Dhaka said, “We look forward to working together in key areas such as economic growth, migration, climate change, and security.”
