Unauthorised battery-run auto-rickshaws banned on Dhaka's main roads: Home Minister
The movement of unauthorised battery-run auto-rickshaws has been banned on the major roads of the capital, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told parliament.
He made the remarks on Monday, September 7, in response to a question during the parliamentary session, which began at 3pm with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram in the chair.
The Home Minister said the government has already taken various steps to regulate auto-rickshaw movement. Drives are also ongoing against illegal charging points and other irregularities.
He said a policy is being drafted to regulate battery-run auto-rickshaws. Once the policy is finalised, steps will be taken to assign vehicle numbers and register drivers.
The Home Minister further said rules and policies have been prepared to rein in uncontrolled battery-run auto-rickshaws. These will be implemented soon on certain conditions, taking into account employment, environmental and other factors. The use of eco-friendly batteries is also being considered.
