UP elections in 7 phases, first phase likely on Nov 12

The Election Commission (EC) has planned to hold the Union Parishad (UP) elections in seven phases, with the first phase likely to be held on November 12.

Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah disclosed the information at a press conference at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon.

He said the local government elections may begin with Union Parishad polls in 80 upazilas in the first phase. This decision has been taken primarily. Discussions will be held with all registered political parties regarding the local government elections, with plans to hold talks with these parties in the third phase.

EC Sanaullah said the commission wants to hold the local government elections in seven phases. The probable dates are November 12 for the first phase, December 13 for the second phase, December 30 for the third phase, January 17 for the fourth phase, February 4 for the fifth phase, April 22 for the sixth phase and May 27 for the seventh phase.
