During the discussion on the proposed 2026-27 fiscal year budget, there was a ruckus in the National Parliament over the speech of National Citizens Party (NCP) MP Abdul Hannan Masud about the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Participating in the general discussion at the meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, Noakhali-6 MP Hannan Masud criticized the proposed budget on Sunday. He said that this budget is a reflection of the BNP's party aspirations, not the country's real needs.

At one stage of his speech, he addressed the Prime Minister and said that the Prime Minister has presented wrong information about the opposition party in various speeches. He also criticized the Prime Minister's statements on the loan and banking sectors.

At that time, some members of the government party stood up and protested.

Later, on a point of order, BNP MP Zainul Abedin Farroque called Hannan Masud's statement untrue and demanded that that part be removed from the parliament's minutes. He said that untrue statements about the parliament leader are not acceptable.

In response, opposition chief whip and NCP convener Nahid Islam said that if any statement is called untrue, it must be specifically mentioned. He also commented that the opposition party has the right to criticize the Prime Minister's statement.

Then, Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Hannan Masud had specifically made untrue statements about the parliament leader. At this time, arguments and uproar started between the government and opposition members.

When the situation became heated, the Deputy Speaker asked Hannan Masud to sit down and commented, "This is the parliament, not the Shahbagh complex."

Later, opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman called for keeping political statements inside and outside the parliament separate. He said that the answer to the statements made outside should be given outside and the answer to the questions of the Parliament should be given within the Parliament. At the same time, he requested not to further increase the debate on the issue.

Finally, the Deputy Speaker said that a decision will be taken after reviewing the issue. After that, the general discussion on the budget continued.
