The United States government has reiterated that it does not support any political party in Bangladesh and called for a free, fair, and peaceful parliamentary election.

Tracy Ann Jacobson, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Dhaka, made the statement after meeting Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission office on Monday.

Jacobson said, “The US Embassy and the US government do not back any political party or leader. We want Bangladesh’s upcoming parliamentary election to be conducted in a free and fair manner.”

She also addressed rumors and conspiracy theories surrounding the election, emphasizing that the US supports the interim government led by Professor Yunus and the Election Commission’s efforts to hold a transparent election early next year.

Jacobson expressed hope that the election would take place in a peaceful and secure environment, helping to establish a democratic government that reflects the people’s aspirations.

“We meet with political parties and leaders to understand their policies and goals but do not endorse any party or politician. The election outcome is the decision of the Bangladeshi people,” she added.

The meeting was attended by US Embassy Political Chief David Mo and political expert Firoz Ahmed. EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed welcomed the delegation upon arrival.

This was the first meeting between the US Embassy and the Election Commission since the political changes on August 5 last year.
