US embassy cautions citizens visiting Bangladesh ahead of polls
The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a safety alert for American citizens in Bangladesh ahead of the national parliamentary election and referendum on February 12.
The advisory was posted on the embassy’s website and social media channels, including X and Facebook Friday morning (January 30).
The alert warns of potential political violence and extremist attacks during the election period. Vulnerable targets may include campaign rallies, polling stations, and religious sites.
US citizens are advised to avoid protests, large gatherings, and crowded areas.
The embassy urged Americans to remain vigilant, monitor local media, keep a charged mobile phone accessible, and review personal security plans, including identifying alternative travel routes.
Due to anticipated election-related traffic restrictions, the embassy will provide limited in-person services on February 11 and 12 at its Dhaka mission.
