The US State Department has issued a travel advisory for its citizens planning to visit Bangladesh ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and Independence Day. Americans have been advised to remain cautious due to potential disruptions caused by large gatherings, severe traffic congestion and extended public holidays.

The travel alert was issued in a message from the US State Department on Wednesday, March 18.

The message noted that the Bangladesh government has declared public holidays from March 17 to 23 for Eid-ul-Fitr, followed by another holiday on March 26 for Independence Day. Due to this extended break, many businesses may remain closed until March 26, and some emergency services may also be limited.

It further stated that popular tourist destinations may experience massive crowds and traffic jams during this time, which could disrupt normal travel activities. Travelers have been advised to plan accordingly, keeping potential inconveniences in mind.

The US State Department also mentioned that the Bangladesh government has taken certain steps to conserve fuel, including imposing limits on fuel purchases and extending holidays for educational institutions and government offices. These factors may cause some difficulties in daily commuting and accessing services.

Additionally, travelers have been reminded that passports must be valid for at least six months to enter many countries. Those with passports nearing expiration have been urged to renew them promptly.
