US Special Envoy Charles Harder visits Lalbagh fort during Dhaka tour
US Special Envoy for “Best Future Generations” Charles J Harder has visited the historic Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka as part of his ongoing official trip to Bangladesh.
In a statement issued on Sunday (April 19), the US Embassy in Dhaka confirmed the visit, saying Harder toured the 17th-century Mughal-era landmark along with Deputy Chief of Mission Megan Bouldin.
The visit was organised by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh.
During the tour, the envoy inspected the historic hammam (bathhouse), which has been restored with support from the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. The initiative, according to the embassy, reflects Washington’s commitment to protecting cultural heritage for future generations.
Harder arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for a three-day visit focused on strengthening strategic cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh in education and child welfare sectors.
Officials said the visit highlights ongoing collaboration between the two countries in promoting cultural preservation alongside development partnerships.
