The government has extended the deadline for vehicle owners to renew fitness certificates, tax tokens, route permits and driving licences without paying penalties.

Under the latest decision, the documents can be renewed by paying only the applicable taxes and prescribed fees until October 29.

The government has described the extension as the final one.

The Road Transport and Highways Division issued a notification on Sunday (August 23), saying the extended deadline would take effect immediately.

According to the notification, the concession applies to all types of motor vehicles whose fitness certificates, tax tokens or route permits have expired or remain outdated. Driving licence holders will also be able to renew their licences without penalties within the extended period.

The decision was taken with the approval of the Finance Division on August 23. Vehicle owners seeking the waiver must complete the renewal process by October 29.

The notification, signed by Assistant Secretary Md Jasim Uddin of the Road Transport and Highways Division, instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary steps to implement the decision.

The extension gives vehicle owners another opportunity to regularise their documents without additional fines. However, the notification makes clear that October 29 will be the final deadline for availing the waiver.
