The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) has fixed April 9 for the verdict in the murder case of Abu Sayed murder, a student of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR).

Chief Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, presiding over ICT-2, fixed the date on Thursday (March 5).

The judicial panel also includes Justice Md. Manjurul Bashid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.

Prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Moinul Karim represented the state, while the defense lawyers appeared on behalf of the accused.

Among the 30 accused, six are currently in custody: ASI Amir Hossain, former BRUR Proctor Shariful Islam, Constable Sujon Chandra Roy, Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury, Rafiul Hasan Rasel, and Anwar Parvez.

The remaining 24, including the main accused and former BRUR VC Hasibur Rashid, are at large.

The prosecution presented its arguments over three days from January 21 to 25, including CCTV footage from the university campus gate showing the events of July 16, 2024. The videos helped identify the accused’s locations and actions, and the prosecution demanded the maximum penalty for all 30 defendants.

The formal trial began on August 27 last year, with charges filed against all accused on August 6. Four state-appointed defense lawyers were assigned for the absconding defendants on July 22.

Investigation reports were submitted on June 24, and charges were accepted on June 30.
