Verdict on Hasina, Rehana’s plot corruption case on Dec 1
A Dhaka court has fixed December 1 for delivering the verdict in the case filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 16 others over allegations of abusing power to obtain government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
After the defence and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) presented their closing arguments, Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Md Robiul Alam set the date on Tuesday, November 25.
Other accused in the case are Sheikh Rehana, her daughter Tulip Siddiq, Public Works Ministry administrative officer Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, senior assistant secretary Purabi Goldar, additional secretary Oliullah, secretary Kazi Wasi Uddin, former RAJUK chairman’s personal assistant Md Anichur Rahman Miah, former member Mohammad Khorshed Alam, Tanmoy Das, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Eng.) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (Retd), former director Md Nurul Islam, assistant director Majharul Islam, deputy director Nayeb Ali Sharif, and two later-added accused; former Principal Secretary-1 to the Prime Minister Md Salah Uddin and former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed.
ACC lawyer Moinul Hasan said, “The principal accused in this case is Sheikh Rehana. A total of 17 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death in a crimes against humanity case and Sheikh Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, have been charged.” The case was filed by ACC deputy director Md Salahuddin.
