Verdict today in Abu Sayed murder case, six accused produced at ICT-2

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) is set to deliver its verdict on Thursday in the human rights case over the killing of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, during the anti-discrimination student movement in 2024.

The hearing, led by Justice Nazarul Islam Chowdhury, saw six of the 30 accused brought before the tribunal this morning (April 9).

Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam confirmed that the verdict will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television.

The case’s formal proceedings began after charges were framed against all 30 defendants on August 6, 2025, and the trial officially commenced on August 27 with opening statements. The prosecution had submitted its investigation report on June 26, 2025, following the July movement unrest in which Abu Sayed was killed on July 16, 2024.

The six accused currently in custody include police sub-inspector Amir Hossain, constable Sujon Chandra Roy, university proctor Shariful Islam, former Chhatra League Leader Emran Chowdhury Akash, assistant registrar Rafiul Hasan Rasel, and staff member Anwar Parvez Apple.

The remaining accused, who are at large, being represented by state-appointed lawyers.
