A viral video showing a dog being thrown into a river with a brick tied around its neck in Narsingdi has sparked widespread outrage across the country. The incident came to the prime minister's attention, prompting him to order swift legal action against those involved.

Narsingdi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge A R M Al Mamun said the main accused, Mohammad Ali, a resident of the Kamargaon area, has been arrested.

According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning around 11:30 am when the dog was thrown from the Nagariakandi Bridge. A video of the incident was recorded and shared on social media, where it quickly went viral and drew strong criticism.

The accused was arrested from his area on Thursday.

According to police, the prime minister took notice of the incident on Friday and directed the authorities to take necessary legal action. Following the directive, the accused was arrested, and efforts are underway to identify and bring others involved to justice.

OC A R M Al Mamun said the operation was conducted following instructions from higher authorities. Action will also be taken against others involved in the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a local woman used to care for the dog. The accused, Mohammad Ali, allegedly threw the dog into the river after becoming angry that it had dug holes in the ground a few days earlier.
