Vote counting underway in mourning atmosphere at JU
Vote counting is underway in the Jahangirnagar University Students' Union (JUCSU) elections amid mourning over the untimely death of a teacher.
Jannatul Ferdous, 31, an assistant professor of the Department of Fine Arts, died after falling ill while participating in the vote counting process.
She suddenly collapsed in front of the door of the vote counting room at the university's Senate Building on Friday morning. Later, she was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where doctors declared her dead.
Assistant Professor Jannatul Ferdous was serving as the polling officer of JUCSU and Pritilata Hall.
The news of Jannatul Ferdous's death created a mournful atmosphere in the vote counting room this morning. Many of the polling officers broke down in tears.
At that time, JUCSU Election Commission member Dr. Rezwana Karim Snigdha announced: "In such a situation, I would request all of you to pray for her (Jannatul). Since we are in the middle of a task right now, we cannot leave it incomplete even if we want to. We have to continue this task. In the situation that has arisen, we are bringing forward the vote counting process for the hall where that teacher (Pritilata) was in charge and making arrangements to complete it quickly."
