The Election Commission (EC) has allowed voters to change their electoral areas until September 7 ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The commission has instructed all upazila and thana election officers and registration officers to take the necessary steps to process applications for voter transfers.

According to a notice signed by EC Senior Assistant Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury on Wednesday (September 2), the schedule has been set for receiving, issuing and disposing of applications for voter transfers due to changes in residence.

Under the schedule, September 7 is the deadline for submitting applications to change electoral areas. Election offices can issue application forms until September 9, while all submitted applications must be disposed of by September 10.

The EC has directed the concerned officials to ensure that all voter-transfer applications received within the stipulated period are processed within the deadline.

The commission is preparing to hold the first phase of the local government elections from November. As part of the preparations, the voter list was finalised on Monday.

According to the latest final voter roll, Bangladesh has 128,777,643 registered voters.
