Voters' list bill-2026 passed in Parliament
The 'Voters' List (Amendment) Bill, 2026' has been passed in the National Parliament with the aim of ensuring universal suffrage. The bill was passed unanimously by voice vote in the thirteenth session of the National Parliament on Monday.
Raising the proposal to pass the bill, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman said that this amendment has been brought to provide an opportunity to exercise the right to vote to those who have completed 18 years of age before the reasonable time of announcement of the schedule for the National Parliament elections, including other elections.
The minister said that according to Article 93 of the Constitution, it was mandatory to pass the previous ordinance in the form of a bill within 30 days of the first sitting of the Parliament.
It is worth noting that the 'Voters' List Ordinance, 2025' was issued last year to amend the 'Voters' List Act, 2009', which was converted into a full-fledged law today.
