Voting resumes at Fazilatunnesa Hall after 2hrs suspension
Voting at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, part of the ongoing Jahangirnagar University Central Student Council (JUCSU) election, resumed on Thursday around 1:30 pm after a two-hour suspension caused by an unexpected incident.
Earlier in the day, at approximately 11 am, controversy erupted when Sheikh Sadi Hasan, the Vice-President candidate supported by Chhatra Dal, entered the female dormitory hall without official permission. This led the election authorities to temporarily halt the voting process at the hall.
Responding to the allegations, Sheikh Sadi Hasan told reporters that he had accompanied a teacher and was present with their consent.
Prior to the incident, both VP candidates—Sheikh Sadi Hasan of Chhatra Dal and Arif Ullah Adib of Chhatra Shibir—cast their votes at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall around 10 am.
During the voting, Sheikh Sadi Hasan accused the university administration of favoritism towards a rival candidate and alleged that extra ballot papers were printed to manipulate the election results.
Meanwhile, Arif Ullah Adib expressed confidence in the integrity of the student body and optimism about his prospects in the election. He also raised concerns about former students’ unauthorized presence on campus and claimed that complaints to the election commission regarding this issue have gone unaddressed.
Although voting was scheduled to begin at 9 am, it commenced with a slight delay. Election materials, including ballot boxes and papers, were delivered to polling centers beforehand, with candidates’ polling agents taking charge of the process. Authorities confirmed that voting will continue until 5 pm.
