VP candidate Tahmina boycotts DUCSU vote alleging rigging and bias
Tahmina Akter, an independent candidate for the Vice President position in the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election, has announced a boycott of the voting process, citing widespread vote rigging and partisan dominance.
Speaking to reporters at the TSC around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, Tahmina accused the election administration of unfair practices, including ballot manipulation and restricting the presence of polling agents.
“I have witnessed clear instances of vote rigging and party dominance,” Tahmina said. “In Amar Ekushey Hall, a polling officer filled out a ballot paper on behalf of a student. Although we had submitted information to appoint six polling agents, the authorities only permitted one.”
She criticized the administration for its biased conduct and declared her boycott of what she called a “farce of an election.” Tahmina also demanded that those responsible for the irregularities be held accountable.
The allegations add to growing concerns about the transparency of this year’s DUCSU elections.
