Warning signalled at river ports as storms likely in 14 regions by tonight

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms with rain in 14 regions of the country by tonight.

This information was revealed in a weather forecast issued for the country's inland river ports until Thursday evening (June 18).

According to the Meteorological Department, by 1am tonight, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds speeding at 45–60 km/h from the south or south-east direction may occur over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet regions.

In this situation, the river ports in these areas have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and at a few places in Rajshahi division.

There is also a possibility of moderately heavy to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country, the agency added.

The weather office further stated that the mild heatwave currently sweeping over Gopalganj, Rajshahi, and Pabna districts, as well as some areas of Khulna division, may gradually abate. Additionally, day and night temperatures across the country are expected to drop slightly, as noted in the forecast.
