Was eating at home at the time of Mariam’s death, MP Gazi Nazrul in interrogation

Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam who is in four days’ remand in the incident of recovering the hanging body of his second wife Mosa. Mariam Khatun from the flat of NAM Building of the capital has given his own statement to the police regarding the day of the incident. His claim is that he was at home itself on the day of the incident and was eating food with several leaders and workers of the area at that time.

Gazi Nazrul gave these pieces of information in the interrogation on the first day of the remand at Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) on Tuesday. Makchuda Islam, his first wife, has also been interrogated in the interest of the investigation of the case.

It is learnt citing the sources of the concerned officials in the interrogation that Gazi Nazrul has claimed that he returned home at noon on the day of the incident and ate food with several leaders and workers. Later when he went to know whether Mariam had eaten he found the door of her room locked from inside.

He informed that after getting no response even after calling many times the police was informed. Later the police came, broke the door and recovered the hanging body of Mariam with the fan.

Gazi Nazrul further claimed that his relation with Mariam was good. However Mariam was in mental unrest over the incident of a personal video of theirs spreading on social media earlier and she used to talk about the matter often.

On the other hand first wife Makchuda Islam has claimed that no quarrel took place with Mariam on the day of the incident.

Last July a discussion took place over the matter after a video of a personal moment of Gazi Nazrul Islam with a young woman spread on social media. Later it was learnt that that young woman was his second wife Mariam Khatun, 19. After this incident Jamaat-e-Islami expelled Gazi Nazrul from the party.

It is learnt that from then he had been living in that flat of NAM Building with his two wives.

Mariam’s body was recovered from that flat itself last Sunday evening. In this incident Mariam’s father S M Masum Billah filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on the allegation of abetment to suicide.

Gazi Nazrul, his first wife Makchuda Islam and Mariam’s maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman have been made accused in the case. The DB Police is investigating the case. Police has informed that the attempt is continuing to arrest the absconding accused.
