We are serious about mob justice, this culture will be eliminated: Home Minister
Mob culture will be eliminated from Bangladesh, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.
He made this remark in response to journalists' questions after a meeting of the law and order committee at the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, March 8.
Responding to questions about mob culture, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "Mob is one thing, and some crimes, spot crimes, are another thing. We cannot confuse everything with mob."
He said, "We saw a girl was raped and then murdered in Narsingdi. Later investigation revealed that her own stepfather was involved. But initially, we filed cases against those involved in the rape, and all accused were arrested within 48 hours. They are in custody, and many have confessed. We know of one or two more such incidents – we know of the Chattogram incident as well. We are addressing these issues. They cannot be compared to mob."
The Home Minister further said, "There are some isolated incidents. However, we are certainly serious about the issue of mob justice, and mob culture will be eliminated from Bangladesh."
