We will be fair to Sheikh Hasina: Information Adviser
Commenting on the government's policies and judiciary, Prime Minister's Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said that fair trial and justice will be ensured in any situation—even in the case of political opponents.
At a press briefing on the government's progress at the Secretariat on Tuesday (May 19), he said: "Our main goal behind removing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power was to establish justice."
He said that the government will be fair to Sheikh Hasina, even to the enemy.
Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman also said that if Sheikh Hasina returns to the country, no extrajudicial measures will be taken in her case. The entire trial process will be completed within the legal framework.
He said that the accused will get full opportunity to prove himself innocent in the trial process and the state will also cooperate with her. Whatever the final verdict, it will be determined through the judicial process—this is the 'principle of justice'.
Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, who was present at the time, said that in any case, the crime has to be proven through investigation, prosecution and judicial process.
He said that an accused person is considered a criminal only when the court proves it.
He also said that the same principle of justice will be followed in all cases, from fugitive heads of government to ordinary citizens.
