Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said that after the country became free from autocracy on August 5, the interim government formed reform commissions, and BNP submitted transparent proposals from the people's side.

He made these remarks at a public rally organised by district BNP at the Altafunnesa playground in Bogura on Monday afternoon, April 20.

The Prime Minister said, "We always say that we will do everything transparently, there is no hiding. Differences of opinion exist in democracy, but our goal is the development of the people of this country."

He said that when no other political party dared to even utter the word 'reform' due to fear of autocracy, BNP presented a 31-point reform programme, as they saw how the country's health, education, banking and communication systems were brought to the brink of destruction over the past 16 years.

Tarique Rahman said the people have given a mandate to BNP to implement their plans and the July Declaration that the party signed. He called for a pledge to fulfil every promise made to the people.

He said freedom of speech and all political rights, including the right to vote, were taken away for over a decade. On August 5, 2024, the entire nation took to the streets, forcing the autocracy to flee. The people have now reclaimed their lost voting rights and their right to speak.

The Prime Minister said that Family Cards, Farmer Cards, and allowances for imams and muazzins are being arranged. Loans of up to Tk 10,000 for farmers have been waived with interest, benefiting about 12 lakh farmers nationwide.

He said the canal digging programme initiated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman has been revived, with a plan to dig 20,000 kilometres of canals over the next five years.

Tarique Rahman also said that work has begun on foreign employment so that young people can get jobs abroad at low cost, with good news to be announced soon.

Additionally, he announced that the long-standing demand of Bogura residents for the Bogura-Sirajganj railway line will be started soon, and Bogura airport will be developed to make it suitable for cargo aircraft to facilitate the export of local agricultural products abroad.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister arrived in Bogura by road from Dhaka. He inaugurated the newly constructed building at the District Judge's Court and the 'e-bail bond' activities. After unveiling the Bogura City Corporation nameplate, he visited his ancestral home in Bagbari, Gabtali, and inaugurated the national vaccination programme, Family Card and canal digging activities at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Gram Hospital.
