Alleging attacks on Jamaat-e-Islami women activists and supporters in different parts of the country, party ameer Shafiqur Rahman said, “To us, the honour of our mothers is far more valuable than our lives. If anyone tries to raise a hand, Inshallah we will not sit idle with our hands on our cheeks.”

He said those who have laid hands on mothers and humiliated them should apologise, adding, “Allah will forgive them.”

Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon while speaking as chief guest at a Jamaat women’s rally in Mirpur, Dhaka. The rally was held at Manipur Girls’ High School ground.

The Jamaat ameer further said, “We, the children of mothers, will rise in protest. At any cost, we will protect the dignity of our mothers, Inshallah. There are two options: one is to change oneself for the better and respect mothers. Otherwise, be prepared to take full responsibility for what follows.”

He added, “We do not want matriarchy, nor do we want patriarchy. We want a humane society. We want no division—neither in religion nor in ethnicity. We do not want discrimination based on gender.”

Calling on voters, the Jamaat ameer said, “On the 12th of February, there will be two votes. One is the ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum. ‘Yes’ means Bangladesh wins, ‘Yes’ means freedom, ‘Yes’ means fascist oppression will not return. Inshallah, our first vote will be ‘Yes’.”
