Weapon used to shoot DNC inspector was looted from police station: DMP
The weapon used to shoot Md Siddiqur Rahman, an inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in the capital's Swamibagh area was looted from a police station on August 5 last year. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in the incident.
A large quantity of ammunition, along with pistols and revolvers looted from the police station, have been recovered from the arrestees.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami revealed this information at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre on Mintoo Road in the capital on Wednesday, March 4.
The arrestees are – Syed Jisan Ahmed, 29; Syed Hasibul Hasan alias Piyas, 22; Omar Faruk Sayem, 21; and Solaiman Hossain Chowdhury, 25.
At the press conference, DC Sami said that around 12:05 pm on Monday, March 2, a team from the Department of Narcotics Control was conducting an operation in Swamibagh. At that time, 3-4 unknown miscreants fired shots targeting Inspector Siddiqur Rahman. He sustained bullet injuries to his leg. After the incident, the attackers fled, and a regular case was filed at Wari Police Station.
He further informed that police immediately reached the spot and recovered a revolver, four rounds of ammunition, and five bullet casings.
Later, based on secret information, Jisan, Piyas and Sayem were arrested during operations in various locations on Tuesday, March 3. A pistol looted from the police station, two magazines, and 16 rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. Based on information provided by them, Solaiman was arrested in a separate operation along with another pistol and three rounds of ammunition.
According to police, the arrestees had primarily gone there to consume drugs. When the narcotics officers confronted them, they opened fire. A total of two pistols, one revolver, two magazines, 23 rounds of live ammunition, and a motorcycle have been recovered from the four arrestees.
DC Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami also informed that a total of 300 people have been arrested in the Wari area over the past week on various charges.
