A crocodile dragged an injured dog into the deep waters of a pond adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) in Bagerhat on April 8. The dog's body later surfaced. Days later, speculation over what exactly happened that day continues, with no clear answers.

Yet the answers may lie in a CCTV camera installed directly in front of the main shrine, pointed at the pond's edge. Despite the passage of days, footage from that camera has not been released.

The video that spread nationwide was captured on mobile phones by visitors. It shows the crocodile dragging the dog underwater, sparking widespread criticism on social media.

According to some accounts, the dog had bitten several people at the pond's edge. When shrine security guard Forkan Hawladar shook his leg to fend off a bite, the dog fell into the water. Moments later, the crocodile grabbed it and dragged it away.

The dog's body later floated to the surface and was buried. On April 11, under the supervision of the district livestock department, samples were collected from the carcass for testing.

The same day, the district administration formed a three-member investigation committee headed by Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mosammat Atia Khatun. The other members are the upazila livestock officer and the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station.

Asked about the progress of the investigation, UNO Atia Khatun told Views Bangladesh, "We have not yet received the dog's post-mortem report. We will submit the investigation report once we receive it."

When asked whether the shrine's CCTV camera captured the incident, she said, "We will inform you of everything in the investigation report."

But when that report will be submitted, the UNO did not specify. Until then, the mystery of what exactly happened at the pond's edge remains locked in the CCTV footage.
