To reduce the trade deficit, high-quality wheat is being imported from the United States, Finance Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Tuesday. He reassured that although the imports come at a higher price, consumers would not face any adverse impact.

At a meeting of the Secretariat’s Procurement Advisory Council held this morning, approvals were granted for the import of power sub-centers, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and fertilizers.

Speaking after the meeting, Salahuddin Ahmed stated, “LNG imports are being made in line with international market prices. No former U.S. ambassador or any individual or institution is involved in the process. The government’s initiatives have led to the recovery of evaded taxes, and efforts are underway to increase employment opportunities.”
