Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder has said the land registration law could not be brought under the Land Ministry due to lack of necessary support within the government, but he does not want to increase bitterness by disclosing internal matters at the time of his departure.

He made the remarks while responding to journalists at a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday, February 10, his last working day in office.

Asked about the progress of bringing land registration activities under the Land Ministry, Ali Imam Majumder said he did not want to create bitterness by revealing internal issues as he was leaving. He said the matter had been taken to the highest level from his ministry and even discussed with the chief adviser, but they failed to achieve success.

When asked why it could not be done, he said the initiative required support from all concerned, which they did not receive from everyone within the government.

Asked who was responsible, the land adviser said he was not blaming anyone. He said their collective mindset was responsible and that he himself was taking responsibility for the failure as he could not make it happen. He expressed hope that it would be possible at some point in the future.

Speaking about the Food Ministry, he said the country currently has the highest food grain stock in the past six years.

Ali Imam Majumder said safe food stock is considered to be 1.35 million tonnes, while the current stock stands at 2.21 million tonnes.

He added that due to sufficient stock, ongoing food programmes, including food-friendly initiatives, would not be disrupted and that the newly appointed adviser would not need to take hasty decisions.
