Woman stabbed dead by ex-husband in Dhaka’s Dakshin Khan
A 33-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her former husband in the capital's Dakshin Khan area on Monday night.
The victim, identified as Aklima Akhter, was attacked around 8:30pm in the Dewanbari neighborhood, according to her daughter, Sheikh Sairi.
Sairi told reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) that her mother was assaulted with a knife by her ex-husband, Masud, who stabbed her multiple times on the head and hands. Neighbors rushed Aklima to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, and she was later transferred to DMCH, where doctors pronounced her dead at approximately 12:15am.
Locals apprehended Masud immediately after the incident and handed him over to police, confirmed Dakshin Khan Police Station.
Aklima, who owned a clothing shop in Uttara, had married Masud several years ago and financed his relocation to Dubai. However, disputes arose when Masud allegedly stopped sending financial support, leading to their divorce about four to five months ago.
“Masud came to our house last night and suddenly started stabbing my mother,” said Sairi, Aklima’s daughter from her first marriage.
Inspector Md Farouk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, stated that the body has been sent for autopsy. “She had stab wounds on her head and hands,” he said.
