Women MPs will work to revitalize parliament: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that newly elected women MPs will play an important role in institutionalizing democracy and making parliament more vibrant.
He said this after paying tribute to the newly elected women MPs from the reserved seats at the tombs of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday (May 4).
He said that the new women MPs are hopeful that they will play an effective role for the country and democracy.
At the time, the newly elected women MPs also expressed their commitment. They said that they will give importance to protecting the rights of women and children, eliminating social inequality and developmental activities when they go to parliament.
Earlier in the afternoon, the MPs from the reserved seats visited the tomb of Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area and paid tribute by offering flowers. After that, they participated in prayers.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Chief Whip and other central leaders were present at the tribute program.
49 newly elected members of the reserved women's seats took oath on Sunday (May 3) night. Later, they signed the oath book.
According to the information of the Parliament Secretariat, 36 members from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance and one from the independent alliance took oath. The complications in one seat have not been resolved yet.
