World Bank offers new $700m package for Bangladesh: Hasan
The World Bank said it seeks to expand its engagement with the new government of Bangladesh, offering a new package for the development of the Rohingyas who came to Bangladesh from Myanmar.
World Bank Country Director Abdoulaye Seck conveyed the lender’s interest to Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud during a meeting on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hasan Mahmud said Seck had shown interest in strengthening and widening the engagement of the World Bank with the new government.
The World Bank official had specifically mentioned a new package worth $700 million, of which $315 million would given as grants for Rohingyas and the rest as soft loans for the host community in Cox's Bazar, the foreign minister said while briefing reporters.
