World Bicycle Day Today
Today is World Bicycle Day being celebrated all over the world. Like every year (June 3), the day is being celebrated in Bangladesh through various events. Various cycling organizations in the country have organized rallies, awareness programs and campaigns to highlight the importance of bicycles as an environmentally friendly and healthy means of transportation.
The main goal of World Bicycle Day is to raise public awareness about the benefits of using bicycles. According to experts, regular bicycle use helps reduce air pollution and traffic congestion, while also playing an important role in ensuring people's physical fitness and active lifestyle.
American professor Leszek Sibilski played an important role in launching this day. He started an international campaign to highlight the benefits of bicycles and worked for the recognition of the United Nations.
This initiative, which started as an academic project in 2015, later turned into a global movement. As a result, on April 12, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day. Turkmenistan provided significant support for the implementation of the proposal, and about 56 other countries joined as co-sponsors.
Experts say that bicycles are an effective, affordable and environmentally friendly means of achieving sustainable urbanization, environmental protection and a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, World Bicycle Day is not just a day of celebration, but also a symbol of global commitment to a clean environment and a healthy life.
