World Health Day observed today with various programmes

World Health Day is being observed on Tuesday, April 7, with the theme 'Science in healthcare, safety for all life'. Bangladesh has also adopted various programmes to observe the day in alignment with the theme set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with various non-governmental development organisations, have taken initiatives.

According to the history of World Health Day, the UN Economic and Social Council decided in February 1946 to convene a conference on international health. The International Health Conference was held in June and July of that year, where the WHO constitution was adopted.

The constitution formally came into effect on April 7, 1948, and that day was designated as World Health Day. Each year, WHO selects a health issue of global importance as the theme. The day is observed locally and internationally across different countries.

To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has organised a discussion meeting at Abu Saeed Convention Centre in Shahbag at 10:30 am.

The event will be chaired by Health Secretary Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, with Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain as chief guest and State Minister for Health Dr M A Muhit as special guest.

The National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh has decided to observe a service week from April 7 to 13. Alongside providing healthcare services throughout the week, various awareness programmes have also been scheduled.

As part of this, a public seminar titled 'Sports boost life, keep heart strong' will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday at the auditorium of the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute in Mirpur. State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque will attend as chief guest.
