World Lymphoma Awareness Day today
Today, Monday (September 15), marks the World Lymphoma Awareness Day. Bangladesh Medical University and the Hematology Society of Bangladesh jointly organized a rally and a scientific seminar to observed the day.
The seminar, held at Milton Hall of the university, was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Rafiquzzaman Khan, Chairman of the Hematology Department.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahinul Alam attended as the chief guest, while Pro-VC (Research and Development) Professor Mujibur Rahman Howlader was present as special guest.
Three eminent physicians presented keynote papers highlighting that lymphoma, a blood-related cancer affecting the lymphatic system, can be treated successfully if detected early. They stressed the need to dispel widespread misconceptions about the disease and called for greater public awareness, timely diagnosis, and access to modern treatment facilities.
Addressing the event, Hematology Society President Professor Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir and General Secretary Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud noted that with advancements in medical science, effective treatment options for lymphoma are now widely available.
They urged patients not to lose hope upon diagnosis and to seek treatment promptly.
Earlier in the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the university’s Bot Tola, with participation from hematologists, faculty members, students, patients, and representatives of various voluntary organisations.
