Writ filed challenging validity of appointing six city corporation administrators

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the legality of appointing six full-time administrators in six city corporations, including Dhaka North and South.

The petition was submitted on Wednesday (March 4) by Advocate Golam Kibriya along with five other Supreme Court lawyers: Zillur Rahman, Abu Dawood Nizami, Al-Muttaki Billah, Ismail Hossain Shobuj, and Khalid Saifullah.

The petition names the Local Government Secretary, the Election Commission, and other concerned authorities as respondents.

The appointments were made on February 22 through a government notification issued by the Local Government Division (City Corporation-1 Branch) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives.

According to the notification, Md. Abdus Salam was appointed as administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation; Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan for Dhaka North; Nazrul Islam Monju for Khulna; Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury for Sylhet; Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan for Narayanganj; and Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar for Gazipur City Corporation.
