Writ filed seeking probe of interim govt’s activities
A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking an investigation into the 18-month activities of the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The petition was submitted by senior lawyer Mohsin Rashid, according to court sources.
A preliminary hearing on the writ was held before a High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar on Sunday (May 17). The court fixed Thursday for passing an order.
Lawyer MK Rahman argued in favour of the petition, while Attorney General Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal represented the state.
Speaking to reporters, MK Rahman said the petition seeks an inquiry into alleged “widespread disorder” during the 18-month period, including impacts on the economy and healthcare sectors.
He said the petition calls for forming a commission of inquiry under the Commission of Inquiry Act, arguing that such a body is necessary to prevent future attempts to destabilize elected governments.
Petitioner Mohsin Rashid said the request is for a comprehensive investigation into all developments during the period, while leaving the structure of the probe to the government.
He also noted that the Attorney General indicated he would seek instructions from the government before making further submissions in court.
