Xi Jinping congratulates President Mirza Fakhrul

Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as President of Bangladesh.

This information was given in a notice from the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Monday.

In his congratulatory message, Xi Jinping said China and Bangladesh are long-standing friendly neighbours. He noted that over the past 51 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have respected each other equally and extended mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, adding that the two nations have also supported each other in pursuing their respective paths of development and modernisation.

The Chinese president said the China-Bangladesh bilateral relationship has withstood various tests amid a changing international situation.

Xi Jinping said in the message that he is ready to work with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to further advance the traditional friendship, strengthen strategic communication and expand high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

He also expressed hope of ensuring greater benefits for the people of both countries by further expanding cooperation and exchanges between the two countries across various sectors.
