Yasmin Begum takes charge as new secretary of Ministry of Cultural Affairs

Yasmin Begum, an officer of the 17th batch of the administration cadre, has formally taken charge as the new secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. She has succeeded the outgoing secretary Kaniz Mawla. Earlier the Ministry of Public Administration promoted Yasmin Begum, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division, to the rank of secretary and posted her to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on September 2.

A reception was organised in the conference room of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on the occasion of the new secretary taking charge on Sunday (September 6). Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Minister for Cultural Affairs, welcomed the newly appointed secretary and wished her success in discharging her duties. At the programme the minister said Yasmin Begum’s long administrative experience and efficient leadership will help make the ministry’s work more dynamic and people-oriented.

The minister further said the activities of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs are important for the development of the country’s art, literature and culture. He expressed hope that various initiatives of this sector will be implemented more effectively under the experience and leadership of the new secretary.

At the programme the heads and representatives of various departments, directorates and offices under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs greeted Yasmin Begum with flowers. Later the new secretary expressed gratitude to the officers and representatives present.

After taking charge Yasmin Begum expressed her resolve to work with sincerity and dedication for implementing various initiatives taken by the government for the development of the country’s art and culture, its expansion and the preservation of rich cultural heritage.

Earlier as part of the recent reshuffle in the administration, Kaniz Mawla, secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was attached to the Ministry of Public Administration for subsequent posting. In the same reshuffle three additional secretaries including Yasmin Begum were promoted to the rank of secretary.
