Youth remanded over 'attempt to enter' PM's security cordon

A court has granted a five-day remand for the motorcyclist who was arrested on charges of attempting to enter the security cordon designated for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during an event at Farmgate in Dhaka.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order on Monday, September 7, after hearing both sides.

Earlier, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Asadur Rahman of Tejgaon Police Station, produced the accused, Muhibullah Mubin, before the court and sought a seven-day remand. Advocate Shamsuddoha Sumon argued for the remand on behalf of the state, while the defence lawyers sought cancellation of the remand and bail. The court later granted a five-day remand.

Police said the incident occurred around 4pm on September 5 after the Prime Minister had entered the event venue.

The case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
