Youth stabbed inside hospital ward
Kawser Bepari, 25, was stabbed and injured after Faruk Fakir, 55, entered the medicine ward of Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital, police said.
The incident took place on the sixth floor medicine ward of the hospital on Saturday afternoon (August 22).
Kawser is the son of Shahalam Bepari of Saidarbali area under Madaripur Sadar upazila. Faruk is the son of Nurul Haque Fakir of Tubia area under the same upazila.
Police, the injured person and hospital sources said Faruk Fakir and his associates were accused of stabbing Shaheen Mollah, son of Mannan Mollah of Saidarbali area, over previous enmity two months ago. A case is ongoing over that incident.
Finding Faruk alone at the hospital on Saturday, Kawser, the brother-in-law of Shaheen, pushed him down. A scuffle broke out between the two, breaking the ward’s Thai glass. Later, enraged Faruk vandalised the ward and attacked Kawser on various parts of his body with broken glass pieces, according to allegations.
Hearing Kawser’s screams, nearby people came forward, detained Faruk and informed the police. Seriously injured Kawser was admitted to Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, said one person has been arrested over the hospital clash. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
