Zaima Rahman hosts ‘Tea Talk’ with young voters in Dhaka
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, on Monday engaged with young voters in Dhaka through a unique interactive session titled “Tea Talk,” aimed at promoting political awareness and youth participation ahead of upcoming elections.
The event, held at the Banani DOHS playground, was organized by the BNP Election Management Committee’s Content Generation Team. Zaima personally visited each table to interact with participants, addressing their questions and concerns.
During the discussion, young attendees raised issues including social media engagement, lack of sports and recreational spaces, traffic congestion, air pollution, dwindling greenery, and public infrastructure challenges. Zaima emphasised the need for more community centers and parks in Dhaka to foster social interaction and reduce mobile dependency, while promoting safety and civic responsibility.
She also spoke on women’s freedom of expression, stressing the importance of raising awareness from school level and coordinating with social media platforms to empower young women to voice opinions confidently.
Participants highlighted disparities in education between urban and rural areas, infrastructural shortcomings in classrooms, and the divide between public and private universities. Zaima stressed collective action to safeguard freedom of expression and ensure equitable opportunities for all.
The session also addressed women’s safety in public spaces and workplaces, with Zaima encouraging civic engagement and shared responsibility among youth to address societal challenges.
