Ziaur Rahman assassination convict Mozaffar faces tribunal hearing today
A hearing on the investigation report in the crimes against humanity case against Major (retd) Mozaffar Hossain is scheduled for Wednesday (September 23) at the International Crimes Tribunal-2.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury will hear the matter.
The other members are Judges Md Manzurul Bashid and Noor Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Mozaffar, who was arrested in connection with the 1981 assassination of then-president Ziaur Rahman, was shown arrested in the July Uprising-era crimes against humanity case on July 23.
The tribunal also allowed the investigation agency to interrogate him for two days and set September 23 for submission of its investigation report.
Investigators subsequently questioned him about allegations linked to crimes against humanity during the July Uprising in Feni, as well as his alleged connections with the Ziaur Rahman assassination case. Prosecutors have said information obtained during the interrogation of another accused, retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury, led investigators to examine Mozaffar’s alleged involvement.
The case concerns alleged crimes against humanity committed in Feni during the July 2024 mass uprising. Masud Uddin Chowdhury is also an accused in the case.
Mozaffar was arrested in Dhaka on July 15 after remaining at large for about 45 years in connection with the Ziaur Rahman assassination case. He was subsequently handed over to military police at Dhaka Cantonment.
