Retired Major Muzaffar Hossain, a key convict in the assassination case of former President Ziaur Rahman, has been produced before International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) over allegations of crimes against humanity.

Muzaffar was brought before ICT-2 on Thursday (July 23), where a judicial panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury is scheduled to hear the matter.

According to the prosecution, a production warrant was issued against Muzaffar in connection with allegations of crimes against humanity. Prosecutors are expected to seek his formal arrest in the case and request permission to interrogate him.

The prosecution had filed an application for a production warrant on July 21, following which the tribunal ordered his appearance.

Muzaffar was arrested from a residence in Dhaka's Banani area on July 15 after remaining a fugitive for nearly 45 years in the Zia assassination case. He was later handed over to the Military Police at Dhaka Cantonment.

Meanwhile, retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury was also produced before the tribunal this morning. Prosecutors had sought an additional two months to submit the investigation report in a crimes against humanity case linked to the July 2024 uprising in Feni.

However, the tribunal deferred fixing a new date after allegations surfaced regarding his possible links with Muzaffar.
