Ziaur Rahman murder accused Mozaffar to be tried at International Crimes Tribunal

Steps have been taken to make Mozaffar Hossain, a former army officer and accused in the murder case of former President Ziaur Rahman, an accused in a case at the International Crimes Tribunal, nearly 45 years after his arrest.

The International Crimes Tribunal sources confirmed the matter on Tuesday (July 21). Sources said an application has been submitted to the court seeking to show Mozaffar Hossain as arrested in the Tribunal's case. A hearing on this matter is expected to be held at the International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday.

Earlier, on Thursday, Mozaffar Hossain was arrested following an operation based on conversations with former army officer Masud Uddin Chowdhury. Law enforcement agencies said he was arrested after being on the run for 45 years in the Ziaur Rahman murder case.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Home Minister had said that this accused in the Ziaur Rahman murder case would be tried through a court-martial. However, the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal said the necessary preparations have been completed to arrest and try Mozaffar Hossain in a case of crimes against humanity. Investigation into the relevant allegations against him has also begun.
