Ziaur Rahman murder case accused Mozzaffar arrested after 45 years

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested retired Major Mozzaffar Hossain, a fugitive accused in the assassination case of former President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, nearly 45 years after the killing.

The information was confirmed by DB sources on Thursday (July 16). He was arrested from the Banani DOHS area of the capital on Wednesday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Detective) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said the retired army officer had been taken into DB custody and was being interrogated.

He added that a press briefing is likely to be held later in the day to disclose further details.

Former President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated on May 30, 1981, during an attempted military uprising at the Chattogram Circuit House. According to law enforcement authorities, Major Mozzaffar Hossain had remained absconding since the incident until his arrest.
