Zonayed Saki steps down as party Chief
State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki has announced his resignation as chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan, citing the need to maintain a clear separation between government responsibilities and party roles.
Saki made the announcement at a press conference held at the party’s central office in the capital's Hatirpool on Saturday (April 4).
"The decision was taken to ensure organisational independence between the government and the political party," he said.
Following his resignation, Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu has assumed the role of acting chief coordinator of the party.
Speaking at the briefing, Saki also addressed the implementation of the “July National Charter,” noting that while discussions are ongoing, the views of the majority party will ultimately prevail.
Saki was re-elected as chief coordinator during the party’s fifth national council held in Savar on November 3 last year, where a 55-member executive committee was also formed.
He was elected to parliament from Brahmanbaria-6 constituency in the February 12 national election as a candidate of the BNP-led alliance and later joined the cabinet under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as State Minister for Planning.
