Zubaida Rahman calls for planting trees to build a habitable planet
Dr. Zubaida Rahman called for increasing greening to protect the environment at an event organized at Dhaka University to promote tree plantation and scientific thinking. She said that there is no alternative to tree plantation to make the country's villages and cities greener, cleaner and liveable for future generations.
She said this at the inauguration of the month-long tree plantation program and 'In Search of Future Scientists' Science Fair organized by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) at the Curzon Hall premises of Dhaka University on Wednesday (June 10).
Dr. Zubaida Rahman inaugurated the tree plantation program by planting neem saplings at the event. At the same time, she also formally inaugurated the science fair.
She said that tree plantation is not only an initiative to protect the environment, but it can be the basis for economic, social and generational development. She called for shaping this initiative as a 'Green Revolution'.
Dr. Zubaida Rahman emphasized on including green volunteer activities in the curriculum to make students environmentally aware. She also proposed the formation of Green Volunteerism, Climate Youth Fellowship and Environment-based Startup Fund.
She said that the country's problems can be solved through research and innovation in various fields such as medicine, agriculture, physics, chemistry and information technology.
Former and current teachers and students of Dhaka University, administrative officers and leaders of various levels of ZRF were present at the event. Acting Executive Director of ZRF, Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, presided over the event.
