Motive of MP Anar’s murder not yet known: DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that since the main planner of the murder of lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar is staying abroad, the main motive of the murder is yet to be known.
Speaking to reporters after a function at the DMP headquarters in the capital on Wednesday (May 29), he said, "What is the motive behind MP Anar’s murder – neither the Bangladesh police nor the Indian police have yet figured it out."
However, the police will try to bring the mastermind of the murder back to the country through diplomatic efforts, he said.
The DMP Commissioner said that the motive will be known only when the mastermind of the murder is arrested.
Habibur Rahman said that Shahin, the main accused in the MP Anwarul murder case, is now in the United States and there is no extradition agreement between the United States and Bangladesh. However, the police will try their best to bring him back.
Member of Parliament from Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Anwarul Azim went to Kolkata on May 11 for treatment. He had been missing since May 14.
On May 22, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that he was killed in a flat in New Town near Kolkata.
